Day 10 - Chapter 10

Day 10 – Chapter 10

Vs 11 “The mouth of a good person is a deep, life-giving well, but the mouth of the wicked id a dark cave of abuse.” When I read this verse I thought of people in general who are so negative and tend to only want to discuss the bad in everything and they are not fun to be around and I have no desire to be in conversation with people like this. It’s easy to see is about others but I think it’s extremely important to look at the self first, which is probably the most difficult thing to do but is a must! Matthew 7:5 (message) "Don't pick on people, jump on their failures, and criticize their faults— unless, of course, you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging. It's easy to see a smudge on your neighbor's face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own. Do you have the nerve to say, 'Let me wash your face for you,' when your own face is distorted by contempt? It's this whole traveling road-show mentality all over again, playing a holier-than-thou part instead of just living your part. Wipe that ugly sneer off your own face, and you might be fit to offer a washcloth to your neighbor.

Vs 12, “Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers all wrongs.” It’s amazing when we posses God’s love how easy it is to love those you probably wouldn’t and when love is present, as Toby Mac says, “The house is packed.”
Vs 14, “Know-it-alls talk too much a sheer waste.” We know these types of people also, I struggle with talking too much, especially when I’m nervous…. We talked about this in the “Virtuous Woman” study about ‘down time’ and that it’s not always safe because senseless chatter tends to turn into gossip!

Ending the chapter with the, “The speech of a good person clears the air; the words of the wicked pollute it.” Have you ever walked into a room and felt like you could cut the air- I am going to assume that this is what this passage is talking about
Reflecting on Chapter 11 it seems to really have nailed down, the disciplined life to as little as the tongue…. Psalm 39
1 I said, "I will watch my ways
and keep my tongue from sin;
I will put a muzzle on my mouth
as long as the wicked are in my presence."

Daily reminders to me how important are words are and how they can affect someone. Have you ever caught yourself talking too much????
